The History of the Boulden Companies
The Boulden Companies is a 3rd generation family-owned business that is known throughout New Castle, Kent, Cecil, and Chester Counties for quality in propane gas delivery, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical services.
It all started in 1946 when Urie Boulden Sr. and his brother Omar Boulden founded Boulden Brothers to provide coal delivery to the Newark community. Omar Boulden bought out Urie Boulden Sr. in 1947, and he later added heating oil delivery, which brought the company wider recognition.

Urie Boulden Jr. started his own heating oil business in Cecil County in 1959. Later, he bought out his Uncle Omar in 1963, and merged the two companies, creating Boulden Oil Company. Oil burner service was started in 1965. Over the years, services like propane gas delivery, septic tank cleaning, portable toilet rentals, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, water conditioning, bottled water delivery, and electrical services were added. Although many people still remember the Boulden brand for delivering heating oil, the family exited that business in 2001 to focus on its expanding propane and service businesses.
Urie Boulden retired in 2005. The company is now owned and managed by Tim Boulden, who joined the business in 1988, and his brother, Mike Boulden, who joined the business in 1992. Today’s Boulden employs more than 60 people across its four major business segments…
